St. Leonard’s Church had a bit more in store for us than we thought ….
St. Leonard’s has the largest and best preserved collection of ancient bones and skulls in Britain. The collection consists of shelves of four arched bays that contain 1,022 skulls in total and a single stack of bones and skulls that is estimated to represent 2,000 individuals. They are not certain how they came to be here – there are theories of course, but no firm evidence to support.
It was eerie, creepy and yet fascinating to see all these skulls and bones and to imagine the stories of each of these individuals and how they came to be, here.
